Hello
My buddy has a 97 F150 with the v6 and his dipstick tube broke off leaving the bottom part in the block. Does anyone have any Ideas on how to get this out. There is not alot of metal to grab he tried visegrips with no luck. Any advice appreciated..
Also wondering how hard it is to drop the oil pan to get at it that way. The local shop wants 6 hours labor to drop the oil pan is it that hard to do...
The quick and dirty way to solve the problem is to simply drive the remaining portion of the tube down into the oil pan and leave it there. It won't go anywhere except to the bottom of the oil pan.
Use a tap. Tap threads into the tube (and only the tube), insert a bolt, and pull. 99% of the time, the tube will start to twist and grab the tap itself and pull right out.
But of course, pounding it down into the oil pan is an option too.
Pulling the oil pan on our trucks is a royal pain. Every service man I've read says: Step One: Remove Enigine from Truck. Unless it's a 4wd, then just drop the front diff.
So get out the tap set. I think you can use 1/4-20... Not sure, though, find the smallest one that will work, that way you don't have to worry about tapping your block.
