I always change my oil between 3500 & 5000 miles on my '03 which now has 17k miles on it. As you can see I don't put the miles on it like most of you and will some times go longer than 6 months between oil changes. When it is driven it gets a workout and has a chance to get hot. Not to many short trips. I know the low miles is hard on turbos, I'am on my 3rd, but does an oil change every 6 to 8 months hurt the 6.0. I'am using Motorcraft 15W/40 since it was new. Thanks for any advice given.
Time is not really a factor for todays oils. I assume that you are putting about 5K a year on it and driving it every few weeks. As you say, not many short trips and you do get it warmed up. In those parameters, I would not worry about it at all. Not enough moisture will accumulate in the oil before it gets boiled out to cause any problems, not to mention that the additive package will be there to keep acid in control.
The turbos where redesigned to help elimanate the problem of rusting vanes, I think. So I would think that the turbo problem would go away once a newer one in the supply chain reaches your truck.
Then again, if you want to, you can spend as much on oil as you want and change it every four months, like MIKE. Just kidding Mike, but the point is the same.
