I have 2 88's that I'm going to be swapping the engine and interiors on. The donor is a EB w/Push button 4wd (Mich), the receipient is a XLT w/ manual 4wd (TX). They both have the 302 in them, so that's not really an issue I hope. I also plan on putting in a 2" or 3" lift on it (use it for a snow plow truck). All that said, any suggestions on what I should be careful of doing when swapping the parts out?
Sounds like you are actually improving things there. No more electronic t-case...YAY! The engine swap should be pretty straight forward. You shouldn't even need to worry about computer differences. Just make sure the 4WD indicator is still working. The indicator tells the computer that the truck is in 4WD. It doesn't really change anythng or make much difference until you are in LO range. Be careful plowing with the Bronco only because its so short. Not that it can't be done, just keep in mind the additional front end weight of the plow can make the truck a little on the front-heavy side. Nothing a little extra weight in the back can't compensate for though. As for the lift may I assume you are talking a suspension lift to help improve front end support with longer, stronger front springs?
THiw will be the third year that I've plowed with the Bronco. It is actually a great truck for what I do. If I knew now what I didn't know when I first got my plow, there is a couple things I would change as far the plow setup.
I don't know what type of lift I was going to use, but on the old one we put in 4 new heavy duty shocks w/heavy duty springs and the first year it was good, but last year the front end was low again, so I know I need to do something to "level" it out to get the plow up higher. I'm tired of it bottoming out on the road in the carry position.
