I just bought a F250 4X4 for $50 The guy told me it was a 1968 but i dont know for sure it has the in cab gas tank and a 2 piece grill on the front with round headlights can anyone tell me how to tell the year?
Well the easiest way is to post a pic but the round headlights is there black bezels like behind the headlight cause the 70-72 trucks had black behind the headlights or post the vin found on door jam and someone will decode it
Welcome to FTE!
You could get the in cab gas tank up until 76 or 77, but the 68 should have a one piece grill with seperate surrounds, either white painted steel or polished aluminum, depending on the trim level of the truck. The grills can be swapped between different years, as long as you swap the valance piece behind the bumper that has the turn signals on it from 70-72.
Im not 100% sure but i dont think so cause i have a book on these trucks and the 73-79 trucks got a lot bigger width and length i believe of course i maybe wrong but i dont think they bolt right up...
thanks im going to take some measurements tonight and match them to the parts truck im thinking of buying and ill put the vin on here tonight to see if someone can decode it for me.
you may want to just look inside the drivers side door jamb my truck still has the build sticker on the rear of the door jamb. the build date is the first thing listed on that sticker in my truck.
f26 = f250 4wd
y = 360 v-8 2 barrel
c = assembled in ontario canada
the rest is the consecutive seies number except i believe that H should be a number possibly an 8 that got fudged or marred somehow
Lots of parts from the 75 will interchange. I don't believe the fenders will, but I believe the radiator support will and the inner fenders with some minor mods.
These trucks all had round headlights until 78/79. The grills from 67-72 are all easily swapped. If it's plastic it's a 70-72 grill, if it's metal or aluminum then it's a 67-69 grill. Now, whether it's the original grill for your truck is harder to tell from here.
Are there reflectors on the side of the bed? In the trim line or seperate?
by the grill diagram its a 1970 two part grill lots of slots in each side i took some measurements and im going to the junk yard on friday to see if they match up to the parts truck.
