c4 or aod?

I am building a street truck. Its an 86 ford ranger that has a 302 already and a aod transmission. I am buying the truck and rebuilding the engine and hope to have a good running 302. Hoping for 300 hp. I have been told that the c4 is a better transmission than the aod. I have read on most 4 barrel carbs that they should not be used with an aod transmission? why is this? I would like to be set straight on which is better and what would work best with a 4x2 ranger with a 302 pushing it for a transmission. Thanks in advance and I appreciate the input!

I would keep the AOD due to the fact it has overdrive. The TV rod has to be adjusted right on. Not sure why a 4 barrel wont work. Strenghtwise, I would say they are equal.

Some 4bbl do not have the right linkage set up for AOD TV cable. My buddy found that out on his Mustang where the guy WELDED a bracket on the carb linkage with the carb still assembled.... Warp city. New Edelbrock carb fixed the problem along with someone who know what he was doing. (in Australia at that)

AOD can be beefed. More gears is better.

Scroll down on the first one and find the adaptor for a Chev trans, keep 'em guessing. (Lower first gear on that trans makes it of interest...)
