transmission swap

I'm a new member. I have an 85 F150 with a 302 5.0. It has an aod transmission. The linkage is broken and the tail shaft is messed up. Is there another transmission that can just be swapped into the truck as is or is the aod the only transmission that will work?

A C6 will bolt up to the engine, but I don't know if it is the same length. If it is much different in length the drive shaft may not work.

And, by the way, welcome to FTE!

Thanks Gary. Since the aod is a four speed, and the c-6 is a three speed, how would I change the gear selector?

You wouldn't change the gear selector. Both the AOD and the C6 use the same number of positions.
