One of the local banks sponsors a "Gift Tree" where unfortunate kids can hang their name and others then get a gift for them. My wife asked me to pick out a name this morning when I was there and every name was already taken.
Even with the economy supposedly in the dumps, people still look out for the little ones at Christmas.

we have a giving tree set up in our church, same principle as yours, the only thing that gets me is that some kids ask for exorbitant gifts such as playstations and xboxes. seems like they should appreciate something lesser in value. but i guess if they have nothing else, what can it hurt?
