Older Quad Help

I have a 1986 Suzuki 230 Quad Runner. It is very low hours and still in great shape for its age. Recently though, I've been hearing a sound like a very loose chain, but I don't think it is the chain. It sounds like it is coming more from the transmission housing. I'm not going to rule out a faulty chain as it does have a lot of slack, but I'd like some other suggestions before I start digging into it myself. Thanks!

IIRC, those have a combined crankcase and tranny housing, with a chain drive between the crank and countershaft. I would pop off the side cover if you can do that with the engine in the frame, and check the tension of that chain.
