Transfer case slop

'99 SD Scab LB PSD

I have had a vibration under acceleration from 25mph to about 35mph since I bought my truck 2 years ago. Anyways, I was under my truck the other day and noticed the rear output shaft of the transfer case was not tight. Basically, I grabbed the rear drive shaft near the transfer case and moved it up and down. I would guess it moves about an 1/8th of an inch.

Is there a bearing in that cone on the rear of the transfer case that might be going bad or already is bad? Or is that an allowable amount of play?

Thanks for any help.

Have you ever changed the transfercase fluid?
Was there any evidence of a leak in that area ?
Also there is a big nut the holds that flange to the transfercase shaft, is it loose?

There is a bearing in there but if it was bad it would have taken out the seal there also and you would have a leak there if the fluid level is where it should be.

On further thought this truck is a long bed ,your vibration could be the center carrier bearing in your 2 piece drive shaft.
Or if this truck is lifted it could be drive line angle.
