4.6L engine and trans mount location?

Hey guys,
I need help! i plan on installing a 4.6L cobra engine in my 54 and would like to weld my engine and trans mounts in before i get the motor(which will be along time from now!). My need to knows are, what frame mounts to use on my tci cross member and the center to center distance from the engine mounts to the trans mount holes. I will be running a auto trans with the 4.6L. The reason for all this premature need is because i want to weld everything in before i paint, any of this make sense?

Thanks fever

fever -

FWIW, I would NEVER weld in motor mounts before I have the engine in hand.

You are a braver man than I.

You put the mounts on the engine and transmission, place it, move it, adjust it some more, tac them in. then decide where you really need them.

Yeah! i know what you guys are saying and i agree, just trying to figure out what i can do other than buying a junkyard motor and trans for a mockup. So with that said i think i better just spend the money for the junkyard motor and trans (about 200. bucks is what the salvage guy quoted me) or wait until i get the set i want then grind off the paint weld the mounts in and touch up the paint.

Your doing the fuel injected thing right?
Fuel injected engines require a pressure return line, meaning you have to change your fuel tank also or atleast rig up something for the second line returning in to the tank for the over pressure or I could be totally wrong depending on how ford set up the new cobra engine. Theres more to it than just putting in the engine and computer on the new stuff.

Depends on the year, up to 1998 Ford used the return line system but 1999 and on used a return-less system. That system requires a different fuel pump.
