What is the correct coolant for use in a 2000 F150 4.2? Also, does the plastic T unit from the Prestone Flush and Fill kit affect the coolant and thereby damage the cooling system? Thanks.
You can check the owners manual for specifics, but in general the standard for the 2000 F150 is a 50/50 mix:
50% regular glycol based antifreeze (like regular old Prestone) and 50% distilled water.
Not sure about the plastic T you asked about.
I doubt it would be a cause for concern as far as damaging the coolant. I do not know where the T fits into the system. Where does it go? Does it get left in the system after the flush?
FWIW, I'd be sure to use distilled water. The 4.2 has shown some propensity to build up crud in the radiator as the miles rack up. (upwards of 125,000 or so) I believe part of this might be galvanic corrosion and part may be due to not using distilled water.
So, regular flushes and refills with fresh coolant are likely a good idea.
