western mirrors
I have a 66 F250 Camper Special. My understanding
is that the camper special came with western style
mirrors. I think mine have been removed and
replaced with the standard mirrors that came on
all other trucks. The question I have is how were
the western mirrors mounted. There appears to be
some extra holes drilled in the very top of the
door above the window. Was the bottom of the
mirror mounted in the same hole where the standard
mirrors are mounted? I quess it would be obvious
to me if I had a pair of original western mirrors,
which by the way I am looking for a pair.
Thanks

Dual Western Mirrors were included in the camper special package. These mirrors do bolt on differently. The top bracket bolts on the door with 2 small bolts above the vent window. The bottom bracket bolts below the vent window with two bolts vertically on the curved contour just above the first body line. If the doors are original then the original holes may still be evident. You may need to remove the inside door panel to view the bottom holes assuming that some body filler was put on the door skin to hide the holes. I suppose its also possible that the mirrors were never installed on your truck. It's my understanding that these items were shipped oose and installed by the dealer. I hope this helps.

Mine's got 'em and I'm going to attempt to reproduce the tubes out of stainless tubing as the originals appear to have a little rust starting. If you locate some make sure they are rust free and, more importantly, get the brackets - they're made on a big press to conform to the door contour and you won't be making them at home.

mine are rusty also and have been painted at least once. I also have a bracket out on the passenger side that carry's an 8" convex mirror. I replaced the mirrors themselves about a year ago w/ stainless ones that came off of a c***y van...perfect fit.

I have the original western mirrors on my '66 F100 C.S. You can see a fairly up-close pic of them at:

Yes, they're chrome. This truck is completely original and untouched, so I'm pretty confident that this is how they came.

Eric- what are western mirrors? I'm running what I've always thought of as f250 camper special mirrors, the first set were from a 69, and were painted steel. The ones on now are the same as Tod's, they are stainless however, not chrome. The stainless replaced the painted steel in I don't know what year. They all seem to mount the same for at least 65 to 79, I'm betting Tod's original mirrors were replaced with the newer SS from a later truck, just like I did. The mirrors I took off were also SS but did not stick out as far, and did not have that extra strut on them, are those what you want? DF

I'm not really sure that the "western" mirror was one of several available on the CS - is there an "eastern" mirror in the east? - but I know that the one in the Ford-Mercury brochure is what I have. The main difference from Tod's is that it has a third strut between the leading edge of the door and the area where the mirror head mounts.

Hi guys- I took another look at all of Tod's pictures, and looked out in the driveway. My mirrors aren't like his after all. Look at the pictures in the 65 section, at a blue 100 CS and a blue and white 250 CS. Those trucks have the third strut on the mirror and mine does too. if you jump to the 67 pictures, there is a dark dull green 250 4x4 that is easy to see the mirrors on, are those the ones Titus is looking for?
