Guys,

does it matter if it's in the manifold or the up pipe? I plan to buy new up pipes since all of the donuts are leaking and I planned to just weld in a bung in the up pipe while I was at it.

is the up pipe OK?

Another thought is how harmful can the shavings be? I know you wouldn't want that kind of stuff going through the turbo all the time, but a few can't hurt. They'd most likely blow by the turbine blades almost before it started spinning anyway - or it seems to me.

I helped a buddy do a pyro install on his Cummins. The manifold would not come off, so we had to drill in the top of the manifold, where any extra shavings would fall down. We used grease on the bits and tap, going very slow wiping off shaving as we went, and he held a shop vac to the spot where I was drilling and tapping while I was doing it. Despite that, I know that some shavings had to drop in there. I listened carefully as we started it up, and heard no funny noises coming from the exhaust or turbo. And, his turbo is working plenty well.

I'm not condoning being careless, it just makes me wonder....
