Injector interchangeability

My vehicle is a 1994 F250 with a 7.3 IDI that specs code E injectors . It is my understanding from info elsewhere that the code E injectors 1992.5-1994 models have a slightly higher pop pressure . What will happen if use the earlier model spec injectors ( a new set of Delphi - 6760301 ) in my vehicle ? I was told by the parts distributor that at this point they were considered the universal replacement injector for the normally aspirated IDI as the only way to get code E was to buy rebuilts . Is this correct ? - Thanks

My injection shop sells just one kind for almost all the 6.9s/7.3s. So, yeah.

The important thing to remember is to get a set of injectors that match the injection pump you already have.

The 93 to 94.5 turbo motors used different injectors. (Code G), Non Turbo Motors were Code E.

See attached for further discussion.

Thanks for that link . The 200K mile IP on my 1994 F250 7.3 IDI non-turbo is the original but it still works and I will not be replacing it with another model when it it quits ( I would have it rebuilt ). I guess I'd better buy the harder to find and a little more $ with Code E injectors .

Good luck Pete,

Sometimes when you try to match new injectors with a pump that old you could run into some issues. Hopefully it will all work out for you.

My personal opinion on rebuilt IP's is that they are not worth it given the risk you take and the low cost of a new pump.

Some of you folks keep saying that, and I keep asking the same question in reply - but no one seems to have an answer (I'm hoping maybe you will).

Where do you buy a NEW injection pump? Nobody - not even the Ford Stealership - offers a new pump in the greater Seattle area. Remans are all you can find.....

I'm with you, I never see new ones either. Never had a problem with the remans I buy from Northland Diesel anyway.

Don't know about Seattle but in the Vancouver British Columbia area I would try any of the following:

Surrey Diesel Injection, Delta
Valley Fuel Injection
Fred Holmes Fuel Injection, Richmond
BD Diesel Performance, Abbotsford
Diesel Auto Service, Maple Ridge

I have never tried getting one from Ford locally, but I am sure they also have them if you are willing to pay.

Even Ford only has remanufactured IP's for the IDI. The price is 435 dollars plus tax.

That's what my what the parts guy at my local Ford dealer told me too, Dave.

I went to the Stanadyne website and found this link
http://www.stanadyne.com/new/ppt/ppt_db2.asp

for the DB2 model line of pumps, and they have a dealer locator that shows the nearest one to me is in California, so maybe you can purchase new pumps directly from their dealers?

I can only imagine what the price would be though - can you say "second mortagage"......?
