It's wierd that they can make such a great engine and screw up on something like a dip stick. Full should read full.
I've wondered about that too...
The problem is, there are varying times someone checks the oil. When they fill up with gas, right after the motor is shut off, it will read low.
Wait all night and check if before you start it, it'll read high.
So if you condone filling it until it's at the FULL mark, you have all these people that will overfill it because they just shut the engine off, and it's on the ADD mark.
On the other hand, reading 6qts as halfway between FULL and ADD, you have the other group of people that regularly overfill it ALL the time.
Hey, maybe that's the idea. Make sure there's always a lot of oil in it
I just talked to a friend who is a tech at the ford dealer,he said that it usually takes about 6.7 quarts to fill most the V10's in between the hash marks and thats after you add 6,start it for a second, check it and top it off.He said I mite of overfilled a tad but not to sweat it,be more careful next time!
