1999 mountaineer -- when i hit the button, all other locks respond but my driver door will not, the rear hatch only needs you to push in the outer button and it pops open. How could i fix these? I have some expensive stereo equipment to install but dont want to until my truck locks properly.
do i need to fix the driver lock if i am having a keyless entry installed?
My experience is with a different year, but likely it's just your lock actuator. Remove the door liner and the actuator should have just two wires going to it. Undo the connector and apply 12 volts to it... and then change polarity (swap negative with positive). If the actuator moves, (the door locks and unlocks) then it's okay and your problem is in the control circuit or wiring. If it doesn't move, replace the actuator. I've seen the actuator lock-up the latch mechanism to the point that you can't turn the lock in either direction with the key.
As for your rear hatch sticking...seen that too. Remove the liner there and lube the latch mechanism inside with something. I used a silicone based spray lube.
