Anyone ever have problems with their power lock button not opening all locks?? When I use my driver-side button to unlock or lock all doors, only the driver's side respond. I can see the other side trying to lock, or unlock, but its as if there isn't enough juice to actually make the locks work.
Is there a simple explanation for this before I start gutting what doesn't need gutting?
Thanks.
My first suspicion is a break in the wiring right where it bends inside the boot between the door and the body of the car. Open and close the door a thousand times and the metal in the wire just fatigues and breaks in half. It's a PITA to get in there and patch it with butt connectors due to very limited space. I would imagine that Ford sells door harness's too, if you want to just replace the thing.
if the wire was broken it would seem that no action would happen when trying to unlock, on mine the lock moves slightly but will not unlock the pass side, drivers side works fine and that door get used alot more in mine
I have the same problem, what I don't get is all four going at the SAME TIME?!?!?! I took a look at the wire plans at my Ford dealer and it looks like there is a single ground wire coming off the control module which is supposed to be behind the fusebox (or so I was told). I have yet to really look into this but this weekend I should be able to get in there and check it out. Crazy thing is that any door lock switch on any of the four doors does the same thing, it's like the actuators aren't getting enough current to fully articulate the swing arm.
same problem 99 crew cab two quit a year ago at same time and other two quit last week. so i figured it had to be a common component so i startedw/switch it checks out so am leaning towards lock/unlock coils under dash but havent tracked them down as yet. lmk what you find out and i will reciprocate
thanks,
Rick
I had the same problems it started with the rear passenger door then the passengers door they would work sometimes and somtimes not. I replaced the door actuators on the doors that were not working(it is not easy unless you have small hands) and all the doors are now working. It must be real common because the local dealers usally has 4-5 of these on hand
Having the same problem on my '01 Excursion. It just started about a month ago, every once in a while the rear driver door doesn't want to unlock. Not a big deal for me because I don't normally have passengers but a little annoying. Good to know that it's not unusual, let us know how much Ford gets for those actuators...
It's definitely the door lock actuators. Their duty cycle is very consistent. My first went out early this year, and I just finished replacing the last one this weekend. Not difficult to replace, just tight quarters in the doors. Take off the interior door trim, pull up the plastic moisture/sound barrier, unbolt the outside door lever, and you'll be able to see them. They're held in by a hard to get to plastic clip. I ended up breaking out the old ones because I couldn't get the clip to unlatch.
Anyway, 45-60 minutes for the first actuator, depending on how big your hands are, then about 30 minutes for the rest, since you'll know what you're doing.
In this thread, Bristrew Kalsc didnt seem to get there question answered. They have the same problem as me. All four door locks quit at the same time. You can hear them trying to work when you try either switch or the remote. Just seems like there is not enough power. I dont think all four actuators went out at the same time. There is talk of shorts and replacing all four actuators in this thread. Does anyone have answer to this.
I checked with my dealer and they suggested two things, one the common ground to the control module for the PDL's and two, possible bad controller for the PDL's.
Haven't done anything about this yet. It's one of those 'minor' annoyances, just a little lower on my list.
