So if you've read my thread about my truck and it's weak 460 https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...eak-460-a.html
then you know the first thing I plan to do is adjust the timing. Well my dad and I were talking about this today and he told me I needed to look into a Spark Retarder. He said that somehow the engine is connected to the computer(specificaly for this function), and it needs to be disconnected, set the timing, then reconnect the engine. But if you set the timing with the computer connected then it automaticaly ajusts for your movement of the distributor.
Suggestions? My dad wasn't sure what it was called but he thought it was a spark retarder. So if I can find out what I need to disconnect?
If this doesn't work then i'll probably get a diagnostic run for codes and the what not.
thanks, if I can get this figured out then come monday im gonna get the timing set and hopefully improve the mpg and power. (fingers crossed)
There is a white plastic piece connected to a terminal on the passanger or driver side fender harness. It should be labeled what it is. Disconnect that from off the terminal and you can adjust your timing.
Well I found a white plastic plug on the passenger side of the engine bay, connected to the fender harness. However, it's not labled, and what it's plugged into is....??? I don't know what. It's inside of a black box, and I couldn't get the bloody thing unplugged so I pulled the whole assembly, the only thing on the other side of the plug is some coiled wires? Is this what im looking for? Is this what I need to unplug? HOW THE HELL do I unplug is? Ive fought with it to get the tabs off for about 20min and can't get it unplugged.
If I take a picture of where it came from, what the inside looks like, and the plug would you be able to say yay or nay?
I don't think this looks like what im looking for. I thought (and may be wrong) what I was looking for was a connection to the computer or something that regulated the engine.
Help? More specific info? More info: while this is a 96 engine, it's a 94 truck.
