Noticing engine hesitation

Hey guys. Thought I'd run this past some people. My 01 V10 Excursion has just turned 80,000 I bought it last year (May) at 68,000 miles. I've noticed that say I'm just driving it normal speeds with just maintaining a constant speed that the truck will kind of "buck" or "hesitate" If I am pushing on the gas hard to accellerate there is no problem. What do some of you guys recommend?

I do not know the history of this truck so I'm guessing I need to probably start to replacing some things such as fuel filter, plugs, the standard equipment. Just wondered if anyone has had the same issues.

Probably a bad injector since you didnt mention your check engine light being on but it could be some other things too. Possibly a bad spark plug or throttle sensor.

sorry. forgot to mention that my engine light is NOT on. After driving it quite a bit this weekend I noticed that it now hesitates/bucks when pressing the excellerator as well. Since I work for a AC Delco and Motorcraft warehouse I'm just gonna pick up a new fuel filter, plugs, wires. Easier to try that stuff before I take it to my mechanic. I did purchase a 24 month warranty with the truck last may. Figured I'd replace the stuff that they will claim it to be if they have to look at it. Last week I replaced my wifes fuel filter on her 2000 Expedition and then took it to the Valvoline oil change place up the street. They changed the oil and then said to me "Looks like you are in major need of a new fuel filter" lol

Not bad idea about changing the fuel filter.

If you're gonna change plugs order 10 new COP (Coil On Plugs...V10s don't have wires) and new boots. My guess is that you have one or more bad COP(s).

To check your throttle position sensor, get either a DVOM or a scanner to see the voltage. One wire will be reference 5V, the other ground and the thrid the voltage the ECM sees. You want to make sure that as you gradually increase the throttle, the voltage must be uniform. If your voltage drops off suddenly, your TPS is bad. Not sure about your specific vehicle but that is info from my other cars with TPS

Argh!!!! I'm pissed. Changed all my plugs and replaced the #1 coil like the dealers $90 diagnostic said and still have the issue. Truck bucks at acceleration and misses at idle.

I also had the hesitation, didn't had it for awhile since I started to solely use 93 gas but I would take that new coil and keep trying it on different plugs til you see an improvement. I will buy 2 sometime soon. and if it acts up start trying them on different ones. Good Luck!

Make sure your COP and injector connectors are tight. I had a similar problem only to pay a shop $120 to find a loose connector. Also, did you put dielectric grease in the boot of the new COP? I found a seller on ebay that has the COP's for around $15. I replaced all 10 with new Motorcraft plugs and now she runs like new.
