If there is just the hole on the outside, it could have been for one of those antenna's tha lies flat along the windshield post. When drilling the holes for a spotlight, you need to do both at once, so they line up.
I had a spotlight on my 1969 F100 back in high school. As described it is definatley a multi purpose tool. My defrosters never worked worth a darn, I would turn on the spot, aim it back at the windshield and let the heat from the lamp do its work.
You always had to be careful trying to find the kegger outside of town. If you started flashing the spot around the folks at the party figured you were the sheriff and would run off the other direction with keg.
