Need Spot Light Help!!!

Ok I know nothing about spot lights. Nothing. I took some pictures where I think this works. I need more help. I will post pictures of the stuff in question.

On the dash, there is a similar hole to the one on the cowl. Would this be the hole for the movement linkage? Any help would be great!!!

Put the pic in your gallery, then copy and paste a link to it. That's the easiest way I know how to do it.

There is a long shaft that goes through the cowl - one end (outside) has the light, the other (inside the cab) has the on/off switch and a handle used to point the light where you want to shine it.

Are those legal for a pov? That sure would come in handy here in South Carolina. This place is infested with people who refuse to either GO ON OR GET OVER!

Sure, they are legal. But you are supposed to use them to look for addresses on houses, or to check the cows. It is like the off-road lights they put on the roll cage of 4wd vehicle - legal to own, but not legal to use on the highway.

When I was a kid we had one on the top of our wrecker. Some guy came up behind us with his bright lights on - seared our eyeballs with the big truck mirrors we had. Turned on the spotlight and pointed it back towards him - and he turned on his, plus the gum machine he had on top of his car.

My buddy's dad had to come get us at the police station, and fight with the cops to keep them from towing our wrecker!

We have those same lights on our tow vehicles at work. You put those in somebody's rear-view and they get the heck out of the way quick!...just wouldn't want that big ol' thing on my truck...

There are smaller sized versions called "baby spots" or "baby Appleton's" after the popular brand of the day. They were a very popular custom accessory back in the 50's every self respecting custom had a pair of them. Biggest use was to chase each other's spot on the drive-in movie screen before the movie or during intermission, other use was to spotlight deer along the road, or to find the trail back to the local make out parking spot. (Not that I'd know anything about that!) J C Witney even sold dummy ones that just screwed to the outside windshield post for the poseurs. (They may still sell them... they never take anything out of their catalog.)

I took a picture of the neighbor's 53 . . . and yes, the were good for drive ins, and also jacking deer, but best for shining into cars parked near the river!

I have a Unity on my 52 and it is still going strong after 50+ yrs. They haven't changed much if any, very robust construction. Make sure it is where it will clear your hood when it's open tho!

I have a mounting hole on my door post, and a hole on the top of the cowl. I have no clue as to what the hole on top of the cowl is. Could it be spot realted? Thanks for the help with my pic, Brian!

The spot only uses the hole in the door post. I don't know what the hole in the cowl may have been for - aftermarket radio or CB antenna?

Perhaps thats it. Thanks guys! Does anyone recognize what I said about the hole in the dash? A one inch hole, above the wiper? Could it be that this is some **** that I am missing or would this be a spotlight linkage hole?

Take another look at the illistration and the pictures - the inside handle is on a shaft that connects to the outside light. You move the light back and forth by twisting the entire handle, up and down by twisting the black grip that sticks out below the shaft and light switch.

The inside hole for the light must line up with the outside hole.
