Vin decoding gears
I was wondering if anyone here can tell what gears I have in my 79 by the vin number?
If so heres the vin # and a thanks ahead of time!!!
05/ 1979 F-250
4spd Reg cab 4x4

No, it's not in the VIN#...
The Axle ratio code is on a special part of the rating plate on the door.
see this page of mine.. first the top for the location (Position 12)...then near the bottom for the de-coding.

It came up as saying the truck had a v8 and a automatic.
The truck has a 6 with a 4spd?
Tag on the door and the cab has the same vin number?

Code 24 = Dana 60 - 4.10 Ratio
Trans K = Automatic = C6
VIN# contains engine code
F26HPFA7167
F26- F250 4x4
H= Engine code = 351M
P = Plant build code = Twin Cities
FA7167= Consecutive build number
F264 - Pickup code for axle weight spec = w/7400 lbs
