Regarding that little green box next to my membername (some members have a stack of them) that denotes your "reputation" on FTE.....how does that designation come about?.....It appears that about 95% of us are "...such and such is starting out with a positive reputation".......about 2% of us are "...such and such is working his way towards being a positive member".......and a scattered few are something like "...this guy changes water to wine and walks on water and we all benefit from his presence"....or words to that effect. I'm guessing that the moderators and administrators make the judgements, but how?........Do you get "downcheck" points for putting in curse words or getting into fights with other members....or for just being plain wrong in your posts?.......I'm pretty sure that just posting ooogles of times doesn't "positively" reflect on your reputation, as I just saw a member with over 4,000 posts whose reputation block says "this member is starting off with a positive reputation"....(note the words "starting off").
Do we have any outcasts on FTE? I'm curious to find the member with a "black" reputation box which says something like "...such and such is the devil incarnate....and his bodily hygiene habits reflect a lack of soap and toothpaste"......
Alright, darn it....I admit it....I just want more green boxes next to my name so I can escape from the mass-membership purgatory of "this member is starting off with a positive reputation" and join the ranks of the elite "this guy rules!" section........Peace

Those Northwest guys are really a great bunch of folks.
One ..it really means something to some people.
From appreciative comments from others.... People feel like they really have done something good and receive that positive feedback so they feel good and contribute more.
Two...it doesn't really mean anything to other people........... and it gets mocked.
1) There are many reasons why people get positive feedback.
2) Everyone starts off with 10 positive points.
3) The descriptions of reputation have been altered from the default comments.

Trust me, if we could do that our posts would be a lot more entertaining and we'd be drinking more "water" too.

When I retire, I plan on buying a couple thousand acres of fishing/hunting land in Idaho next to Mark Furman......I'll work on being a prime member of the NW crew at that point.......They should have a Starbucks out there by then...(haha)...
I've been known to, from time to time. If I see something exceptionally wise, exceptionally funny, or if I just feel like it I'll rep someone. Rep is like deodorant. Not everybody uses it . . . but when you do those around you sure appreciate it.
I do. When I read something I consider well done, I give the points. When I read something less than commendable, I ignore it or comment on it. After a while you come to know who has something to say and who does not.

I give out rep points when something strikes me as different in a positive way. If someone goes out of their way to help someone, I'll also give rep. For instance, if someone knows they have a book and scan needed blueprints for another member, then, BAM! Helpful darn post. If I learn something I didn't already know & it's vital and/or awesome, I'll get a point from me.
It's a good system to have, but can be abused/revoked.
It took million just over an hour to respond to a thread about reputation...he must be losing his touch
Reputation is just another feature on the board. I give it out to anyone that provides good content; whether that be good tech or humor. A few people get their tighty-whities in a twist over it but they should probably spend less time worrying about what folks on the internet think about them
Better to pet the sweaty stuff than sweat the petty stuff I always say

Oh well.....I think I just blew it and got a "black flag" next to my name.......I turned a discussion over the thread "Google is worthless" into a political argument and locked horns with the member "Webmaster".......I'll just change my name from "cmpd1781" to "roadkill" from now on..........(haha)

I just noticed that you're "gaining momemtum as a positive member".....Does that mean you were at the bottom of the well a while back and are clawing your way back up to the top?......(haha)....
