I had a tranny failure at 83K miles on the F250 due to hard driving while chipped. $2,000 for a Ford rebuilt unit and the chip was removed. At 123K miles while trying to reach the top of Mount Washington while in first gear the whole way the tranny seal shrunk and I lost close to 10 quarts of fluid. Right at the top of the Mountain road the truck wouldn't move anymore. The guy behind us said we were leaking over half way up the 8 mile road. A couple of the workers on the mountain said it's a Ford thing and they sell Ford tranny fluid and after addding three quarts the truck still wouldn't move. A tow to the local Ford dealership came back as a bad seal and a toasted torque convertor, the tranny was still good and I bet it got really hot.
Now at 230K the $2,000 Ford rebuilt tranny has close to 100K miles on it and it tows around 15K lbs a couple times a week.
The Excursion at 164K miles has the original tranny with no mods though.
douger: Like to hear the good news stories. More people like myself complain more then we tell the good things. I was a little nervous about a ford reman. but it's stories like your's that make me feel ok about it. Service Writer sd that there is an internal rumor that Ford may be increasing the warranty on Trans from 3/36 to 3/50. Will be interesting to find out.

I guess I just feel like I'm living on borrowed time - 03 Ex LTD, 7.3L PSD, 204K with original trans and CAMP; 200-400 miles per day with 20% WVO. Just regular maintenance. Guess I'm just getting my dicks lined up as Jasper is pretty big here in Maryland and who know what tomorrow will bring, (Knocking very soundly on wood).
Dont Worry!!! Be happy!!!! with all the manufacturers you get that anomoly of a really well made vehicle that lasts forever. Is no different then the anomoly of the really bad vehicle that blows a motor in a week then the tranny the week after then the ac the week after then complete brake failure a month after that. it's just that more people talk about the crap vehicle.
Oh!!! Here's another interesting Tidbit of info. I talked to a local Diesel Shop that i thought was pretty honest. and i asked them about BTS or Suncoast tranny's. Sd they have never heard of BTS. And the Suncoast are awesome tranny's but would cost about $6000 to replace mine with a Suncoast. Asked if i ordered a BTS and had it shipped directly to them if they would install. Sd no we wontinstall anything that we dont order. Todl him ok. no worries. got on the Internet and looked up Suncoast There trannies were around $2800. was there somthing i missed on there websight or was that shop trying to hook me for $3200 in labor?
The local "stealer" quoted me $800.00 to pull my engine / tranny out to replace the oil pan, (different thread). Wonder what the other $2400.00 is for . . . must be FLUIDS! or, no wait - "ADP"! (Additional Dealer Profit)
Well ESP finally denied the claim. Gave reason of it has a lift so that might have caused it. Once again Babbitt Ford from Flagstaff stepped up to the plate and is going to cover it out of there pocket!!!!! They have been awesome!!!! cant say enough. I have a general fear/dislike of dealers. but they have 100% stood by there product (even though it was a used vehicle). they have even authorized that if i dont go with the Ford tranny that they will match what they had to pay and i can pay for the difference for a Suncoast or a BTS. Any suggestions what i should do?
Everyone on this site for the most part says BTS. I went locally to phoenix re trans. They guaranteed their rebuilt for 650 hp and 1000ftlbs torque. $2300 for my 02 Excursion (with out install) w/ 3yr 36k warranty incl. parts & labor. I get it tomorrow.
Get the BTS. You would be 2 large out of pocket but never have to worry about a rebuild. If it breaks this time, you would still be screwed because there will be no warranty. BTS will fix it even out of his written warranty.
