Temp. Guage

I am curious, how hard is it to install a Temp Guage for the tranny? Is there a reccommended guage from our readers? What would I expect to pay a shop to install?
Thanks
BF

The dealer says that they are covering it. I did take it originally to a Ford dealer in mesa. they are the one's that just shot a lazer at it. Sd that it appears there was some sort of extended warranty besides the 3k they gave me. Am i being greedy if i expect them to pay for towing also?

The dealership pretty much waited until the exact day it went out of warranty, while it was sitting at the dealership waiting to be repaired (4/40) and denied any warranty based on rust. They didn't rust overnight, or since the last service appointment that I had taken them in for a month earlier (in the middle of summer no less). I wish I was making this up. Over 10+ hours on the phone with Lincoln (corporate) customer care to get them fixed, otherwise it was gonna cost me almost $2K for new ones. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and scream and yell loud and often until you get what you want and what you rightfully have coming. Best of luck...

Right. You won because you were right. They didn't relent until they felt that you knew you were right and weren't going to back down. If they were legally OK with not covering it, they wouldn't have covered it. They warranty the product for a certain time period and/or mileage. If it is documented that there was a fault that is covered by the warranty during the coverage period, then they are responsible. The warranty doesn't include language that says the seller can stall, plead ignorance, claim they can't see the fault, or perform an ineffective fix and then be absolved of responsibility. As long as you have brought the vehicle in to an authorized dealer and gotten the problem documented (always keep your paperwork) within the covered period, they can't get out from under it unless you let them off the hook. Up to you.

That's great, good deal. And yes, they're on the hook (pardon the pun) for the tow too. They might be expecting you to back down now since they're covering the big fix, but it's a package deal, and they sure can't take anything back now that they've authorized the repair. Any other expenses, like a rental car or the like might be stretching it, I can tell you that on every warranty repair on my Navigator I had a loaner car, but your mileage may vary!

I must clarify. The dealer that sold the vehicle to me. (Babbitt Ford in Flagstaff) Has always been very cool about it. I may have over stressed my self because they didnt communicate to well at certain points. It's the Dealer here in the valley who's work was shoddy at best.

Just make sure thay flush out trans. lines , raditior & replace tourqe converter!!!

Ford makes a oil filter to put inline for the trans. Ask about it thay may charge you for that but the next trans is on you !!! fluid trans. change it every 35,000 miles & converter fluid ,also the same time..

Got word from the Dealer here in town that the tranny is dead. Said they are now waiting for a response from ESP as to whether they are going to send someone down to look at it as it has to be replaced. Sd tehy could probably work on it but that would just cause problems down the road. Thanks for the idea i will surely follw up with them to find out if they can add that that oil filter. I dont mind a little extra expense, especially if it will save me probs down the line. By the way, so far i like the new dealer here in Phoenix that Babbitt sent me to, way better then the other dealer here in area that i went to. if they dont kno somthing service writer wont make up an answer to pretend like he is smart. Honesty goes a long way.

Today they say the transmission is Dead. Now they have to wait for an answer from ESP. Sd wont know till tomorrow if someone from ESP has to come out and look at it before they replace the tranny. I think this is going to take a long time!!!!!

Make sure that when you get the tranny back, you put in a kick *** tranny cooler. I highly recommend a deep tranny pan as well. I personally run this pan:

And this cooler:

With this gauge pod setup:

Since installing the cooler I have never seen the temps over 180* in the tranny. I live in the inland empire in SoCal where temps get over 105* during the summer. Even when towing it never gets above 180*.

Howardq99 I would like to wait to tell you how honest they are untill i get my truck back. I am so leary of dealers it makes my stomach hurt. Wish i could just know that they were going to do a good job and make the truck all better.

Jeepincj7 - Good ideas. I was going to talk to the dealer about having that done while it is there. I dont know if they will or not, but it never hurts to ask. My Excursion currently has a cooler on it. Although im not sure that it is placed very well. I am used to seeing people who install a cooler putting it up front either infront of or bhind the radiator. This one was installed in the middle of the floor board. Above the drive shaft?? Is that a good place? Seems kind of weird to me.

If its not getting air through the fins, then its not cooling enough. Mine is mounted in front of my radiator. Also, if the cooler was doing its job, there is no way in hell you would have seen temps anywhere close to 250*.

If you are getting 250, your fluid will be burnt for sure. Is it burnt? What I am gettig at is that I am trying to make sure you are seeing 250 and not that some sender or gauge is bad. Can you test the sender?

Fluid is now officially burnt now. So is the transmision. That's why i am so irritated. Dealer never checked the gauge or sending unit. Just sd well its pink now so it must be ok. Dealer sd that it's an aftermarket gauge. So i guess that means that they dont care if gauge works. But it is getting taken care of by ESP warranty or the dealer who sold the truck to me. Seems to be working out all right so far.
