New stuff for the reference threads?
#16
I don't think anybody minds answering simple questions; I don't. I just think it would be more advantageous for everyone if new guys got the simple stuff out of the way quickly, and then learned how to use the search function. When I first discovered the search tool and learned what it could do, I spent literally days just reading. I was like a kid in a candy store. I think the faster newbies learn what's all here, the better off they'll be. I'm not saying we shouldn't chat; I like the comaraderie here. I just think that if there were a place here that had all the common answers to all the common questions, it would be beneficial. It's kinda like that "give me a fish, teach me to fish" thing; answer my question and I'm happy for now. Teach me to do my own research, and I'm set for life. I'll check back in when I'm really stuck on something. Now let me tell you about my new '56 project...

He can post a question, and someone will ask him about his project, and then he can answer showing how good a deal he got on a classic that just needs a few things! It is not bragging then, because someone asked him.
They ask the first few questions more as an ice breaker then a search for technical details.

What may be the easiest idea is one the HAMB uses; a sticky that says "New Here? Introduce yourself!" When you open it, it has a brief paragraph suggesting what to include in an intro, and opens a "Post New Discussion" box to do your introduction. It could also explain the Search function.

If you wanted to keep a list of good threads he should read, and posted those to the thread he started, it would be OK. Sort of like saying "read this, and come back and ask any question you may have."
A sticky note explaining how to use the search function, how to attach pictures to a post, and how to set up a gallery would be very helpful. But that is as far as I would go - and if you do not want to answer simple newbe questions, just don't post.
