Question Cylinder head plug?

Does anyone know what the plug on the end of the left head is?
Mine is leaking and not sure if I can just take it off. It is just a square hole like half inch drive. How does it seal up? Thanks fellas.

It's the High pressure oil galley. It's most likey a bad o ring. The square hole in the end is for removal. Go to ford ot IH dealer for the right part#.

At IH the o-ring is about a dollar each.

I took that plug out today, it appears to have an o ring and some sort of gasket also.. Was yours like that too? Bummer that I need to wait until Monday for the dealer to open ........

the plug/oring is like 23.00 bucks from ih and from what i remember the oring only comes with a new plug. i bought one for my dads psd from ih for that price.

High Pressure Oil rail end plugs Large plugs at each end of heads; incl. o-rings
(International) 1827535C94 (new style, blue o-ring)

you can expect to pay probably 2 times that much at ford. your truck will take a few tries to start after finishing.

After replaceing the plug does the anything else need to be done, like refill or prime the oil galley? I know that may be a real dumb question ,but then again maybe not.......

Two ways; 1. Just crank it over for about 20 sec. and then let it rest about 2 min. then do it again, and again and...... until it fires. The oil system has to purge the air out of the oil before it will build pressure. The resting for 2 min. lets the air work to the top of the system.

2. By the manual, remove the rear most oil plug on the valley side of the head (not the one you had to replace the o-rings on). With paper towels in the valley to catch the oil, crank the engine over until oil runs out, (this is best done with a remote start switch) then re-install plug. Repeat on the other head. Then do the above.
This way removes alot of the air before the crank and rest cycle, putting less drain on your batteries and less strain on your starter.

Get this I called 2 dealers for the oring they both said all we sell is the plug with the oring installed, I said fine how much, the first dealer says 31 dollars, which seemed typical for dealer cost , anyway the second dealer I called said 5 dollars and 52 cents for the exact same part, I thought for sure they made a mistake and would surly charge more when I come in for the part, but I was wrong I got the new plug and blue o ring for $5.52......... I guess all Ford dealer are not alike........

Yep, I paid six bucks a piece. Isn't that amazing? $6 for a heavy, big, metal plug and heavy duty o-ring. But almost $40 for three tiny ones for the hpop.

Ya at 6 bucks each I am going to buy all of them, but can't tell are there 2 of these plugs or 4? Looks to me that at the rear of the pass side head there is a plug but at the front it seems to have differant style plug dtto on the rear of the driver side head.
