Gas cap leak

I have tried many locking and non-locking caps all of which leaked. I later checked the filler neck and found the tabs that hold the cap on wre both worn and bent. I took the neck out and striaghtened the bends and then took my welder and filled the worn areas and then filled them smooth. Then put a locking cap back on it the truck and it now no longer leaks. Which is good cause I just had the truck painted and didn't want the clear coat eatin away.
