I've tried a couple different locking gas caps since I bought my 66 F100 Custom Cab, and they all leak gas when I go around a right-hand corner. Are there any locking gas caps out there that can keep the gas in the tank? What about the non-locking ones, do they work better?
My non-locking cap doesn't leak. It's only a few years old. Never had a locking cap on a Slick. Could the inlet tube possibly be bent where the cap seats?
In Oregon it is against the law to pump your own gas. Several years ago I got a full tnak (gas was cheaper) and parked the truck on the street a couple of blocks from work. It was 90 degrees that day and about 3:00 someone came in and said that the police had my truck surrounded. Sure enough when I went out they had traffic stopped for a whole block and a fire truck coming. Seems the gas had expaned and since the street was at a slight angle the gas was dripping out of the gas cap. I told the officer no problem I would move the truck. He attempted to tell me no that it would blow up. I told him I had been driving the truck longer than he had been out of diapers and knew it would not blow ( I was mad by that point, I had thought it was funny). Jumped in and pulled a U turn in the middle of the street (this put the tank on the high side) and parked. Gas leak stopped. He looked in the traffic codes to find something to charge me with (he was the one looking "fuelish" ) but there was nothing. Finally found a criminal code for "placing a hazardous substace on the highway" ( used for toxic waste dumps) and wrote me a ticket for get this $2,500.00. Long story short, I happened to know a local judge ( he had a 68 Ford with mysterous fading paint under the gas cap) who had a conversation with the police dept and it "went away". All in Oregon where we cant even pump our own gas. It isn't a problem with the current cost of gas because I cant afford to fill it up.

WOW, In North Carolina, it is hard to find a place that will pump your gas for you.
I never fill my truck completely full unless I am gonna drive 50 miles before parking it, and then I am looking at a high driver side park in the summer time.
I get a bit of dripping if I try to top off the tank so I just stop when it shuts off the first time and no problems..
I have expecianced the Oregon fill your tank for thing..Let me just say this about 16 years ago on my first trip thru Oregon I stopped for gas and grabbed the nozzle....WOW you would think I was a criminal they way the attendant yelled at me....
My sister and my parents moved to Oregon and now I enjoy letting them pump my gas..In mater of fact it is very nice when it is raining oh yeah that is alomost everyday there in Oregon..
My 66 leaks also so I took a good look at the filler neck and it was bent at the opening. It looks like there was a locking cap on it at one time and someone pulled it off. I banged it back down with the handle of a screwdriver and the caps much tighter now.

John
Wassup John. I agree. I used to pump gas for a service station many moons ago.
i always stop pumping on the first click-off of the pump. I park it both ways becasue at work we have to park on the roadside parallel. can only take what spaces are available parking-wise.
never had mine to leak. non-locking cap.
i filled her up once a week till my brake drum popped. not drove her since.
jd_sylvia.....Like most I drive a 66 because I like to not because I have to. I live in Oregon for the same reason. I also like the seasons, warm rain, cool rain, cold rain and sprinkles. I do wish I could pump my own gas though.............
the problem is the gasket in the cap isn't tight enough. cut a gasket from a old inner tube or some other gasket material and get it under the one that came with the cap. mine didn't fit tight and leaked until i put in the additional gasket on the original cap
