So I don't "get on" my PSD much - but today someone was annoying me so I put the hammer down a bit - As I expected some blueish smoke started trailing me. To my dismay I noticed the smoke did not stop when I let off the throttle - It seemed to keep coming for a few seconds (that seemed like an eternity) even though the engine had pretty much returned to an idle. I'm still running the last bit of "low-something" (sulfur I think) highway fuel that Sinclair sold me at 2.42 a gallon but I don't see how that could make it smoke once the throttle was lifted.
I'm not sure how much blowby is acceptable - my 200K lump seems to have a fair bit. When I bought it the PCV hose was not attached to turbo plumbing - at idle it would blow enough smoke that I noticed a few wisps coming out from under the hood. Otherwise it was never noticeable except for a stink coming out of the vents.<O
Blueish smoke is usally an indication of too much fuel. Could be burning oil tho. Maybe a fresh load of fuel will make the smoke go away, but I doubt it. At fillup use some diesel additve, ie Diesel Kleen, Stanadyne ect.
Lookup ccv mod in this forum. CCV = Crank Case Vent
You might want to route the hose further back to get rid of the smell. You could plumb it into the exhaust and shoot it out the back of the truck.
Also, look at the bottom of the intake tube just above the CCV, it should have been plugged after the CCV Mod was done.
