I think that there have been quite a few discussions here about installing any 05 or 06 unit into the 04 and eariler SDs. They are not the same size and the wiring may be different. I am sure that it could be done but you may have to change the dash or do some custom fabrication.

Could you point me to a few threads maybe? I looked around when i had a minute or two at work but I couldnt really find anything about the conversion.

Try asking the question in the audio section, I am sure that you will get an answer much quicker there. The pysical opening for the 2005 is larger than the 04 and later but some trimming may solve that issue. The 05 factory unit mounts behind the dash trim where the 04 and eariler mounts thru it. Installation kits for aftermarket units are different for the 04 and 05. The 05 has steering wheel controls. IT IS NOT A DIRECT SWAP. Mounting is different, wiring is different. But anything is possible.
