i looked at them too and i agree with you - its just too much - plus i didnt like the fact that i would have add a cd changer too because eclipse unit is a single disc unit - thats the main reason i am intriged about installing an oe unit - you get the navigation and still have a 6 cd changer. there has got to be more than a few super duty owners who would like to do this
it looks like the oe units are made by pioneer - so if a pioneer after market unit hooks up - you would think you could get the oe unit up and running too. just from pictures - it looks like the 06 explorer unit has the correct mounting tabs too
i hope you are right but my experience with mustangs and super coupes - it just wont be that simple - usually the harness is missing a wire or two - it wasnt so bad in the seventies when the harness was the size of your index finger - now it is the size of your arm
I don't want to hijack the thread. I'm just curious if anyone has any pictures of the eclipse or pioneer units mounted in their Super Duty. I have a 2005 SD and I am very interested how one of these units would look.

Check out my gallery for a picture of my '05 SD CC Lariat dash w/the Pioneer AVIC D2. The install in pretty easy if you have the time and inclination. The wiring harness and install kits make it simple, and you only have to find and tap the speed sensor, parking brake, dash light, and back up light wire. I also installed a back up camera. I got all the info. from FTE for the wiring, and it took about a day and a half to complete. It is much simpler than trying to make another Ford model nav. unit fit, and has a lot more features. Get the steering wheel control adapter too if you have those buttons on your wheel. It keeps everything looking and working like factory. I paid about $1500 for all, including the back the camera.
Well.... I just bit the bullet and picked up the eclipse avn5435.
True it's Eclipse's baseline navigation model... but man, this thing works, looks and sounds amazing. Best $1400 I've ever spent (got the rear camera w/ it as well)
Install took about 3hrs... got the nice easy wiring harness adapter from crutchfield. If you've EVER put in an aftermarket stereo before you WILL NOT have a problem w/ this install. Just take your time and read the destructions.
The toughest part, (and I shouldn't even say toughest... more like time consuming part) is running the GPS antenna wire to the top, and rear view camera wire to the rear of the truck while keeping it outta sight.
All in all, simple install and I wish I had done it sooner.
been thinking about how to put in an oe unit and came up with this - since the unit is made by pioneer - get the unit and get the repair connector from ford (its the unit connector with flying leads to patch into the main harness - get the pioneer adaper harnesses that they make to install on the thier after market units - make an new harness for the oe unit between the pioneer harness and repair connectors from ford and that way you wont have to hack up the main harness (which just kills me) - this might just work - any thoughts out there???

If you buy the right aftermarket wiring harness adapter kit, it will plug right into the factory harness w/no little to no extra splicing required unless you buy a headunit with more features than stock (such as nav., back up cam., etc.) But even then the splicing is just a few wires and is easily done.
what are the odds that the oem connectors on back of the pioneer oe naviagational unit is the same as the pioneer after marker unit?? slim or non - also - i have not taken out my oe am/fm/6 cd changer - how does it mount - the four tabs on the side or the slider and the two tabs on the bottom???
BTDT A year ago I installed the Nav system from a Ford 500 and I had to relocate the brackets to one of the other locations on the head unit and plug in the connectors. The brackets matched up to new holes in the dash so I had to install/relocate the speed nuts. There are a few issues that I have like day/night illumination switch and speed volumn but these look like they are program changes in the HU. You can go into the diagnostic mode and it shows what settings are active and not active but I do not know how to change the programming. I can not find anybody to help with the programming so I manually switch from day to night illumination.
I also installed the Homelink from a donor sunvisor from vehicle x into my overhead console. My console is small and only has the map lights and sunroof switches. Now I can control the gate at work and either of the doors at home.

I also did this, after reading pachangalpina's original post about adding the OEM nav unit last year (thanks again for all of your help in getting mine up and running!). It plugged right up with the factory connectors (my truck had the 6-cd radio), and the steering wheel controls work.
