The more I read the postings, I see a common problem. No tail gate. It took me a year and a half to find a good one (cost $350 +s&h). Believe me, I trudged through alot of yards only to be disappointed. In my search for an aluminum grill 61,62, or 63, I called Dennis Carpenter reproductions. They said they had a proto type, but it isn't in production yet. Maybe if enough people call and show them the demand is there, it would benefit everyone trying to restore these fun trucks. Besides, they just don't look good without the original gate.
I sympathize with you, dude...I see LOTS of 60s-era Ford trucks (not to mention Dodge/Chevy/others) running around here with decrepit or altogether absent tailgates. I consider myself lucky; my tailgate is straight and functional.
I may be picking up a Unibody F100 from a friend in the coming weeks...I haven't seen it, but if it merits being parted out, I'll let the listees know what I've got up for grabs.
Good luck,

The missing tailgate issue is a sensitive one, My former truck had a new gate I paid dearly for in the salvage yard. I had it about two weeks and it was stolen....
Has any one found a way to make these older gates theft proof?

Econoline pick up owners have the same problem with the tail gates. Was just at a meet and saw several trucks with dual locks on the gates. Sad comment on our times huh. Thinking of doing it myself though.
Have an excellent, rust and dent free straight original 66 tailgate that I am keeping hidden away, just it case it wants to "wander". On my 66 now, I have a top of a 66 with a botton of a 71 that a friend of mine welded together to make one good one. Looks good, but upon inspection, you can be seen what was done!
Stealing a man's tailgate now? Isn't anything sacred anymore? Okay, just how are we supposed to secure a styleside tailgate besides hiding it in the garage?

Alarms just annoy people but don't scare the theif from trying to steal it.
How about removing the slotted side of the hinge and replacing it with the full circle on the other side? Any one ever try that?
