had a Jordan controller and now a Prodigy. The Jordan had just one adjustment **** so it was very simple and worked great. My only complaint was the mounting location is somewhat limited due to the cable that connects to the brake pedal. Got tired of bumping into it w/ my knee. Jordan says he'll have a remote display model next year. I couldn't wait and so far, Prodigy is fine.
BeachBumCook: I've had at least 5 different controllers and the Prodigy is the best (but I haven't had much time with the integrated one in our new SD yet, which, btw, I bet Tekonsha makes for Ford ). I also second the comments on the boat trailers and surge brakes -- it's been my experience with all my boat trailers large enough to have brakes -- they've all had surge style.
Last: eBay has the best prices for Prodigy hands down. Bid on one that will come with the Ford factory wiring harness and your installation will literally be a snap (connector) and mounting the unit.
Good luck and have fun with that new boat! (I vote for the runabout, btw, unless you have serious skier/wakeboarders in mind -- been there too)
Prodigy is an outstanding brake control. I have used one for 4 years and have been very pleased in all driving conditions, and I tow a 31 foot, 12,000 travel trailer.
I've been using the Prodigy for 4 or 5 years now. I mounted it low on the dash where the "cage" makes it relatively easy to remove when I'm not towning (I don't store anything in the X that I don't want stolen).
Quick & easy to adjust. I've been grateful for it twice (both times on the way to camp) and the trailer stopped nice & smooth in a straight line behind my X.
Have a buddy that had a Valley that went bad after a year's use, and another that had a Draw-tite burn out on the 2nd use.
I installed a Brake Smart controller in my Ex this summer before towing our 30' travel trailer out to Wyoming/Montana. I wanted to have absolute confidence in the mountains, and did not feel that way about my prior unit.
The Brake Smart does tap directly into master brake cylinder, which tells the controller how much pressure to apply. At the same increment/pressure that you are applying to truck. Install was quite easy, do not sweat it. Just pull plug from master & screw this in. Was not cheap, but neither was my rig, and my families safety is worth it to me. Dave
