Guys - I've got an aftermarket step bumper welded to my 72 Ranger (see picks in my galery). I can't find brackets in the sales catalogs only the bumper. I was there when the bumper was welded on, but only 9 at the time, and can't figure what the orignal bumper was attached to. From looking at the pictures you can see a plate that appears to have been welded to the frame, the to the bumper (with a big chunk cut out of the bumper for access).
Are they're brackets that I can find in a bone yard? Or should I buy a new rear bumper and take the whole thing to a welding shop and have brackets made? Is there another source for parts other than the usual suspects?
A few yrs ago I bought a rear bumper from LMC Truck, and had to buy the brackets too. Check their website, or you can order a catalog and see what they look like. Not sure if these brackets fit just this bumper or are a copy of originals.
When I got my truck it also had a massive chunk of metal welded to the frame. It was awful. My rear bumper brackets were missing also. In order for me to install the original style bumper, I had to go to the salvage yard and get the rear bumper brackets. After grinding off the homemade bumper, the original holes were still there. I just bolted to original brakets on and the original style bumper, pretty much, bolted right on.
Thanks guys, I've got the LMC, Blue Opal & Mac Trucks catalogs, but no rear bumper brackets for a 72 Styleside. I'm gonna call LMC and see what they say. Thanks for the imput I'll post some pics when I get it squared away.
let me know what you find out.i have what you are looking for down in the field on my part's truck. it's a 72 style side short bed with the stock bumper still on it' the bracket's are on it with the style side bumper.not a step. those bracket's are different.
72XLT, I think that your step bumper would use the same bracket as the style that is on the front of the truck. The best place to find brackets is in a salvage yard. You probably would have to take a pair off a 65-72 year truck.
1949f1 - I'll let you know what I find. Unfortunately I'm in a metro area (Wash DC) and there isn't much "lingering" of old vehicles of any discription in the local bone yards. If I could at least get a picture of the rear brackets so I knew what I was looking for it would help. Question - Would you be willing to part with the brackets on your parts truck?
Jowilker - Yes, replacing the rear bumper with a correct/new one from either Blue Opal or LMC. Just to clarify, you mentioned a "step" bumper above, I have a styleside. I will crawl under the front this evening and check out my front bumper brackets. I can also compare the bolt up patterns on both the front & rear bumpers in the catalog.

I could only see the front of your truck, but from what I could tell you do not have a molded bumper that looks like the front, but rather a straight side flat top bumper, that is called a step bumper.
I just measured a set of styleside bumper brackets I have for a future bumper installation.
They are 3/8" thick, 2 1/2" wide, 16" long with a 4" offset.
Hole spacing for the frame holes and bumper arms.

While remaining in the never say never mode, I am fairly certain that the same bracket was used for both styles. I would go with that premise until we find out different. IMHO
The sad part a Pick-N-Pull and Pick Your Parts are both under 12 miles from me and I only get out once a month. I will see on average 6 to 7 bump side trucks. I would say within 4 months of collecting parts from different trucks a complete resto project truck could be built up but they crush them.
