i was changing the oil on my 1990 ranger 2.3 5spd to day. when i pulled my oil filter wrench off of the filter to take it out from the bottom a single wire with a connector fell down. the wire is red with a white mabye oragne stripe. the covering that it Ts off of continues on and conects to the back of the transmission with 2 wires. all my gauges work and the truck starts and has no error lights (however i didnt drive it long enough to see if the temp gauge worked) i felt all over the block and and looked all around the drivers side of the engine but coulndnt find a missing conection. is this just a extra wire? or somthing else?
ive done that its only about a foot long. i tried my best to follow the bends to see were it wanted to go but i still couldnt find any thing. ive spent almost 2 hours crqling around looking for the connection
Your 1990 2.3 l. has a low oil level sensor in the oil pan. Look for it on the driver's side of the pan. If there is no wire connected to the sensor, that's where your stray wire belongs.
