Question unknown wire

<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1>

i was changing the oil on my 1990 ranger 2.3 5spd to day. when i pulled my oil filter wrench off of the filter to take it out from the bottom a single wire with a connector fell down. the wire is red with a white mabye oragne stripe. the covering that it Ts off of continues on and conects to the back of the transmission with 2 wires. all my gauges work and the truck starts and has no error lights (however i didnt drive it long enough to see if the temp gauge worked) i felt all over the block and and looked all around the drivers side of the engine but coulndnt find a missing conection. is this just a extra wire? or somthing else?

Red wire with a white stripe is usually the water temperature sending unit wire.

White wire with a red stripe is usually the oil pressure sending unit wire.
