P1450 DTC code, problem solved! Read

I figured out why P1450 was set, and have a good idea of why it went away.

I had long contemplated over how debris, spider egg sacs, and other foreign objects could enter the evap system. I snooped around the evap system and had a hunch it had something to do with a black box that was attached to a hose that connected to the canister vent solenoid. The other end of the hose went nowhere - it sucked in fresh atmosphere.

It turns out the box is the solenoid FILTER and there are no recognizable part #s on the exterior. It appears to be constructed out of a series of air pathways with a foam mesh block to further prevent solid objects from entering the evap system.

Well, at the other end of the hose (right where fresh air enters the hose) it was BLOCKED by a spider egg sac. There was a tiny pinhole where the spiders apparently exited after they hatched which could explain why P1450 was no longer set, and why removing the gas cap causes a HISS. There was not enough air to relieve the vacuum but enough air to not set a code. :wtf:

I removed the egg sac and used some nylon window screen mesh to prevent large spiders from gaining access in the future. Regardless, I know where to look if I ever get the same problem.

Executive summary:
A spider egg sac blocked the fresh air inlet hose upstream of the canister vent solenoid filter, which set the P1450 DTC code due to lack of air getting into the evap system. Once the spiders hatched, a small pinhole formed at the sac, allowing a minute amount of air to enter which did not set off the DTC code, but not enough air to prevent the HISS when removing the gas cap.

Just curious, when you take your gas cap off, is a hiss typically a bad thing?

Yes. It's not supposed to do it. Typically that means there's something in the vapor/evap system that is plugged (pinched lines, etc...) or a valve/solenoid that is stuck. In my case, it was a spider egg sac that blocked the fresh air intake for the canister vent solenoid.
