i have an 89 f150 reg cab. i want to upgrade the sound system. currently it has teh factory radio and i assume the factory speakers. only two of them. one in each door. i'd like to add at least two more speakers... would this be possible? where would they go? how hard would it be to wire them up? any suggestions on headunits and speakers? thanks
I'd highly recommend a HU, 3 channel amp (60 + 60 + 200 - 300, RMS, of course), a good set of 2 ways (maybe even a component set) and a 10" sub. You should be able to do that for the $600.00 to $700.00 range or less, depending on the quality of speakers and amp. Recommend Pioneer HU and sub, infinity door speakers, alpine amp. There are better and there are worse. Budget will decide what you will be able to get.
A four channel amp will usually allow two of the channels to be bridged to make it a 3 channel amp for two doors and a sub.

wow, um... that made no sense to me. sorry i am very limited when it comes to this. Pioneed HU? could i add extra speakers or would the higher quality speakers in teh doors do it? also where would the sub go? theres not Room ANYWHERE, trust me i've looked.
If you're trying to look for a place to put an extra pair of 6x9's in your regular cab, you'll have just as much luck finding a place to put a 10" sub. There are shallow mount subs that don't require a lot of space or mounting depth. Maybe an 8" would be better. If you end up putting your extra set of 6x9's behind the seat somewhere you're not really going to get any benefit from them. And you can't just put them in the cab, they have to be in some sort of enclosure to get any bass from them.
If you get door speakers that can handle 60 - 100 W RMS and put at least 60 RMS to them, they will seem like they're 5 times louder than your stock set. HU's put out 20 watts/ch at best, so I wouldn't even consider running speakers off of one... that's why the external amp.
I had an 89 and it sounded increadable. In fact several SPL competitors and a state record holder said it could win in SQL.
My set up was simple and relatively cheap (not really). I had a rockford fosgate 6.5" Q component system, a pair of 12" punch subs and an older now fosgate headunit. All powered by a 100x4 crossfire amp running through a profile crossover. The key to my setup though was the two dynamat xtreme bulk kits I used.
um... i should say that i will not be compteting, i just want something a little louder than now. somethind i don' have to turn up all the way to hear on the hgihway
