On my way home, my gauges went dead and the ABS light on. Gauges came on and off as they pleased, the ABS light stayed on. Then the engine started cutting out so I turned the A/C off, OK until I get halfway up my driveway, engine cuts out, turned off headlights (middle of the day anyway) I make it into my parking spot and it dies for good. No resart and battery won't hold a charge.
I think it's the alternator and battery, easy enough. Why didn't my battery light come on?
My alternator is shot, I have to charge the battery every other day to get to work and back. No alt light, so it maybe putting out voltage, but insufficient amps to charge the battery. Anyhow, I ordered a new 220amp alt from metra, it should be built in two weeks.
Does your battery take a charge and let you ride around for a period of time? My battery is holding a charge, but my trip to work discharges it. My alt is not recharging the battery I have to charge it manually.
Simalar, 2002, F250, 5.4L, 4x4. I have a little stereo and a winch.
My battery would not take a charge. I just finished replacing both, EASIEST alternator I've ever changed. Finding it was another story (five parts stores and 136 miles). Charging and holding fine so far. Looked over the wiring harness a bit and found nothing.
The ABS light is still on though. I'll take it for a ride in a while to see if it corrects itself.
Oh yeah, it was the original battery so I didn't want to risk another winter on it anyway. Northern Arizona, were it gets cold and averages nine feet of snow.
