97 powerstroke 'hickup'

97 with hypermax chip...truck all the sudden started 'hickuping'...it'll be running and then all teh sudden like...shut down but only for a second..literally. during this..it shuts down--wait to start light comes on..and then everythings back to normal..i DO NOT have to restart it with the key. it's like it miss' or something and then cleans up and comes out of it-runs fine after that. did it once when i started in my drive way a few weeks ago----then twice when pullin into diesel station other night..(was realy low on fuel too)..then last night when started up (full tank)...then after it does it the truck seems to run fine like nothing happened. i listed my truck with the hypermax chip because my dad told me to try and clean the chip and make sure the contact was clean and stuff. i was thinking maybe this--but also any sensors on the engine that would cause this? any help is appreciated.

thanks

both very good suggestions but i have a 99 powerstroke and started having similar problems took it in to my mechanic found out the contacts in my gas pedal had burnt spots in them and when it would hit those spots it would pretty much just die out but restart without touching the key check engine light the whole nine yards just something you might wanna check hope you find your answer soon its no fun when your truck isnt 100% n good luck

i agree with all of your responses. i know cam sensors go out almost DAILY on these engines and i know it's been replaced twice already. so i wouldnt' be surprised if that is the problem. now MY problem is that im 19--part time job adn college student. not a TON of free time and not a lot of money. before i go out and buy a cam sensor..is there a way i can ohm the one on the vehilce out or check it or something. if so--i know it'd sorta be hard as this is an intermittent problem..drove all day today (till noon anyways) adn nothing yet. so--thats what im up against. ALSO i thought about it and..what about the icp sensor? if it looses signal-computer goes into default mode and runs off of that. i unplugged it once to check for my problem..and the engine sorta studdered and then flattened out..(fixed problem of fluctuating idle) but have yet to change icp sensor. just trying to get anybody elses thought on this. but i would agree with teh cam sensor. any way as to checking it though?

thanks for all your help

ps...whats pricing for cam sensor?

im only hesitant on the pedal because this problem doesnt persist all the time..i can run slowly on the pedal from full to nothign and it's fine. problem is only intermittent.

thanks!

I bought one a few weeks ago at the IH dealer for just some change over $100......there are 2 styles, but the guy thought both wouls work and he sold me the newer CPS...................don't go to CarQuest or the Ford dealership........they are too expensive there..........there are 100's, no, 1,000's of posts on this site about CPS, how much $ and where to buy them

When mine started acting up it threw,

0344 CMP Camshaft pos sensor ckt intermittent Incorrect number of CMP transition counts Harness routing, charging ckt, sensor, int ckt, improper gap.

I reset computer and next time it acted up the code was there again.Never got CEL.I repalced CPS and was good to go.
