Hi there, 87 F150, 4x4, AOD, 5.0L (out of a pre 73 mustang) with EFI from the the 87.
My problem is, the truck runs great when cold but surges when warm. It also becomes very gutless and feels like im towing a boat ALL THE TIME. I've come to one conclusion, it's loading the cylinders with fuel. But why? Good spark. So I got a code reader... EVERY sensor that engine has... has a problem.
Could it be my computer is shot? Or does anyone else have any ideas? And what's the best way to go about taking the computer out or even testing it... it doesn't look fun, being all behind the dash...
I've checked plugs, wires, rotor, cap, timing, MAP sensor, played with the vacuum lines, and pretty much anything I could think of. I'm running out of ideas here other then simply throwing on a four barrel and be happy burning money.
If you are correct that EVERY sensor is bad, keep in mind that all the sensors share a common ground that leads back to the EEC, so that would be the first place I'd start.
Generally, if the EEC is shot, the truck doesn't run at all. There are exceptions of course but I'd check the shared ground among the sensors to the EEC first.
It is possible that all the sensors are bad if they were out of something else, but I'd think that's highly unlikely if the truck runs at all.
check fuel pressure at the rail and pull vac line from FPR , if gas is present then that part is bad. also pull codes www.fordfuelinjection.com will show you how using a paperclip. what is your timing set at? also try disconnecting your y pipe from the exhaust manifolds an see if it drives better. its possible your Cat converter is clogged
