My 64 is almost ready for the swap but I have one hurdle to jump...
Which way to go for mounts and a crossmember?
Sacramento Vintage Ford offers two options.
1.The perches that mount to the top of the frame and are completely bolt in. These seem weak and would definatly require boxing of the frame (read: weldin' and a fabricatin')
The second is the crossmember style with slip on ends that need to be welded to the crossmenber but bolt to the frame. I think this is an easier alternative.
My other choice would be using a crossmember from a later model truck and fabricating it into the frame.
Any suggestions or comments from those who have done this?
I'm pretty sure I can make any of these work but I just wanted some input before I get started. The engine is coming out of the Mercury this weekend for a good cleaning and inspection.

Now with recent updates!
Go with the crossmember type. A friend mounted his 351W in a '61, with the bolt in type. As you "goosed" the engine, you could watch it flex the frame. He ran it a few months, and hit a bump in the road at about 65mph, and the oil pan and front axle met. The engine had saged down, and with the right bump, it was not a good thing.
I ended up making my own cross member and engine support. I bought one of those do it yourself jobs, and it would not work for me. Do you still have the solid axle under the front end? If so, I can send you a picture of what I did. If you want to discuss what I've done and how I did it, send me an e-mail at rdkearney(No Email Addresses In Posts!). You will most likely need a rear sump oil pan if you have the straight axle.
Good Luck,
Rich
Yeah, I have a straight axle and would like to take a look at your setup. I think it would help to have a visial picture of what it is I'm trying to accomplish.
