So it's not the work that's hard, it's just your opinion that it's hard to make it pretty. I actually like what you drew up. I saw someone driving around in a convertible truck a couple weeks ago. It looked real nice. Actually, I don't think it was a convertible. Just a truck without a top. I didn't see a cloth top for it.

In one of the Mad Max movies there was an old bumpside wrecker with the top chopped off of it. Looked kinda cool, but I think it would be a shame to butcher up a classic truck.

Here's a picture of that truck. The roof is gone with a 3 panel windscreen in its place.

They had a bumpside camera truck also.

The real issue I think would be the fact that it's got that big, flat, vertical surface at the rear of the cab, and making that look right when up, and tuck away neatly when down might not be easy. A hardtop isn't that bad of an idea, maybe a folding hardtop that you can stow in the bed without too much trouble. Combine with a chopped and raked windsheild, make the top out of fiberglass so one person can handle it, and you have a very unique vehicle with the top on or off.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Always loved that one in the mad max movie. I would never try it on my 68 Mercury, but maybe on a solid cab truck thats a driver not a resto. What about a hinge mechanism that would mount to the topfront rail of the bed and fold down and out of sight, under a bedcover when you put it down? Maybe too much difference in movement of cab and box? Lets open up those inquisitive fabricating and customizing minds, and put them to work!
I think the black one you guys played with looks very cool either way!

I get just about every truck magazine out there and i have been seeing more and more topless/convertibles out there customized to the tilt. And something I saw on a '57 where the molded the bed and cab together. Though we are talking about a 68 compared to a 57... what do you guys think? Definately different but the more I look at my custom, the more I am liking the roof line. I saw a s10 once that someone made a removable hard top out of and I remember speaking to him about it and said there was a kit he bought to do it but this was ages ago... anyone know what I am talking about?

That's pretty sweet! Do me a favor and give Chip Foose a call and set me up for the second tuesday of next week. And let him know that money is no factor at all! All kidding aside, the idea is great but seems to be far beyond my talents and wallet if I were to get someone to do it for me. Just for kicks, see what you can come up with for a channeled, chopped, lowered covertible with a cowl hood.

How About Installing A Tubular Rollcage, It Would Reingorce The Windshield And Provide A Frame For Either Canvas Or Fiberglass Pannels To Mount To. You Could Even Take Out The Side Windows And Weld Up The Slots. Any Convertible Shop Could Make The Canbas For You And I Know I Have Seen Roll Cages For Sale Somewhere For These Trucks. I Have Considered Doing This To My 78 Flareside, What Do You Think?
