I did not test the strength of the magnet but if you cut the casing off the internal electronics are identical.
If the "Blue" magnet is stronger then it will have the effect of advancing the timing since it will be seeing the key mark a little sooner (TDC will be occuring slightly after the CPS signals it). This is probably why Jody's Tunes do not work well with the Blue
I just got off the phone with Jody and he said that there is a difference in the blue and black. He said that is changes the injection of fuel into the cylinders. So if you want one of Jody's Chip you need to be running the black cps.
When you say CPS, are you refering to the Camshaft Sensor? If so, mine started going out about 2 months ago but I ignored it thinking it was bad fuel. My mileage crept up to about 98,500 so I figured I better get it into the dealer while I still had some warranty left. They said they replaced the "SYNCHRONIZER ASY, EBP SENSOR AND CAMSHAFT SENSOR." Is the factory sensor the "black" one that people are refering to? Will my Diablo Predator be ok to load back into my 2002 7.3?
concerning the injection of fuel, no guarentee that it advances timing, i've heard that it retards the timing. true it will see gear on the cam earlier but also later. does the computer trigger on the rise of the CPS voltage or on it's fall. I put the blue one in mine from the local international house. about $105, and no waiting on UPS. asked the dude on phone if he had them, his reply "oh yeah, we have a bunch of those things laying around". but i have other issues to fix on mine before I can vouch for it's effectiveness.

from what i can recall, it advances the timing and does not increase the duration of the injector. also due to the advancement of the timing it increases the cylinder pressures quite a bit

They told me that they did a study and they found that the blue retards timing..Not recommended for thier tuners...
After all the searches that I have done on here about the CPS, it seems that its a 50/50 shot whether it works well on your truck or not...
Isnt there some way to hook up a timing gun or computer to see if the timing advances or retards with this thing in?
