I am putting an 89 grand marquee efi motor into a 64 pu. What are the wires coming from the front of the C6 on the drivers side. It is a round plug with I think 4 wires. There is a two wire rectanlegular plug behind this round plug. The rectanglular one may be the nuetral safety switch. If I cut this round plug off will it effect my brain box?
Check your transmission identification. Does not sound like a C6. A C6 does not require a brain box and the only wires are on a switch connected to the linkage on some of them.
I used that webpage link and identified the tranny as a AOD. I also noticed that the rectangular plug is back by the speedometer cable where it enters the trannie so that is probably the speed sensor. The round plug goes into the trannie above the shifter shaft so that has to be some kind of gear indicator. Does the brain box need those wires?
For your information
Problem solved with the speed sensor. The speed sensor is part of the odometer cable on the 89 grand marquis and removable. I took the sensor off and put it in the odometer hole on the 84 new process transfer case which I have on the 64. It fit great. I did have to change the gear on the end because the 89 gear had a longer nose.
Currently the 64 is using a 77 speedometer cable which I hose clamped to the back of the odometer. The 77 speedometer cable end that goes into the transfer case is clamped on. I believe all I have to do is use the 89 speedometer cable and change the gear on the end I will be able to use the speed sensor.
