flip axle hardware

looking at all of the flip axle kits i would like to know why can't this be something you could put together from your local hardware store and auto supplier? to think about it, it looks that easy and the only major thing is to have the correct angle and adequate clearance from frame via notch. i hate to sound too cheap but if i can save a little dough on the rear that would leave me the extra to do the front correctly. if anyone has the experience with this let me know.

You can have the u-bolts made up at a driveline shop, but do not use off the shelf u-bolts from a hardware store. Those are weaker than an exhaust clamp bolt, and will cause the axle to go in a different direction than planned.
Moroso makes perches you can weld to the underside of the axle to set on the springs, but you will have to get the alignment absolutely perfect.
The only thing about this that really makes me wonder is notching the frame. Done wrong, it can drastically weaken the frame and cause failure down the road.
