i put a shackle flip kit on my truck and it moved my axle up about an 1 inch
was wondering if i flip my leaf springs around it would move it back
i heard someone did it to a chevy and was wondering if it can be done or any tried it
my truck is a 79 f150 4x4 shortbed
whether it would work or not depends on the leaf springs and whether or not the "pin" location is centered in the leafs or offset.
I don't know the correct answer for your truck, so I don't know if it will work, but consider this a free bump to the top of the page - so maybe someone else will see it and can help.
How much lift did you gain by performing the shackle flip? How much arch does your current spring have?
I have performed many shackle flips, and cant see where this small amount of lift had such an effect on the axle location. I was doing a little math, and have come to the conclusion that you would have to lift the rear of the spring well over a foot to move the axle foward an inch, provided you were using stock springs.
Add some arch and this value will change., but an inch is quite a bit.
Maybe a pic to support this theory.
Anyway, not all springs are created with the leaf spring pack exactly centered in thepack itself. Some packs offset the smaller leafs to help prevent axle wrap and deflection under acceleration. Installing a spring backwards would change the performance of the spring, and create the axle wrap that you were trying to solve by eliminating the block.
Which shackle flip kit did you use?
Did you relocate the hanger itself to compansate for the different shackle angle?
You know, if you used a spring from donor chevy (spting that is about 2 inches longer) YOu could change your axle location, and solve your shackle angle problem if it has not been already corrected.
Little more information and some specifics would help a ton.
i gained about 4" of lift witch is about 9" altogether with 3" blocks.
i think the blocks are factory cause they have 3-4" long nipples on them
so the leafs could be 6", or the other way around don't really know.
the shackle flip kit is from sky-manufacturing and i used the original holes no new holes drilled.
i do plan on getting track bars just don't have the money right now,so the truck is just seeing the road fight know no off-road.
i will get pics of it tomorrow to dark right now.
Well first off let me say I think your truck looks pretty darn good. Now as far as your axle coming forward an inch how did you determine this and what is the problem that it is causing for you (clearance, driveshaft)?
the problem is the axle is not centered, the drive shaft fine.
it just doesnt look right with the axle moved forward like that.
if any one knows if the pin is centered or offset or how can i measure it to see if it is centered or offset on the leaf spring
I aggree it does look too far forward. Its probably not hurting anything but it would bug me also. Truck looks tuff though. Thats all I have to offer but Im also curious if turning the springs around would move it back.
