Grinding out the rust from my '66 ford f-250 custom cab I came to discover that there is a major rust problem with what seems to be a minor support brace, but I have no clue what to call it.

It's physical location is in direct line with the front seat bolts, welded on either side pretty close to the center of the lower part of the door channel, right below where you have your aluminum foot scuff modling.

It's fuction I'm guessing is provide additional support for the bench seat, making full sure that the weight of a pair of humans and the family dog doesn't bend the floor board.

It's condition is **** poor. Filled with dirt, combo of washington hard pan and some of grey virginian clay, on either side of the cab the metal crumbles completely under the hands, for an area of about 3 inches from the outside of the truck tward the inside.

#1: Am I right, is this the design/fuction of this device?
#2: What is this brace called, part number or term.
#3: Is there a resource for ordering this.
#4: Anyone else familar with this brace crumbling as if it was made from honda tin?

Priority is pretty low as the truck is offline pending the body work.

 

 

They are "center cab support ends or center cab support brace ends". It is very common for them to rust. They trap dirt and road muck and hold moisture. they are available from most suppliers of aftermarket parts. Try the online store here.
