Rust OH O a Few ideas please!

Hi all I’m looking for a little help on what to do with my truck that currently needs new leaf springs and new rear cab mounts. I new the cab was sagging a little on the driver’s side, but didn’t think much of it until I broke 2 of my 3 leaf springs! We took the bed off the truck and that allowed me to see how bad my rear cab cross member really was. Alright my question is what should I do about my rusted out piece of steel that the rubber mounts too? Can you buy an aftermarket piece of steel that would match my truck? Oh and if anyone has any ideas for leaf springs let me know. (We have dealt with local junk yards and my best bet is new springs). I love my truck, and I wont let it go down without a fight! Oh the few last pictures show my trucks leaf spings right before I took the bed off... YIKES... Last thing if you think your getting really bad gas milage, CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP IN THE TANK!! I found out that I have a small pin hole on the return line right on the metal pump-- whoops Lets fix that now! thanks for your help! Donnie Race (enjoy the pictures)

Wow! Did the previous owner park the truck in the ocean?

Well you do have a fight on your hands. Consider a parts truck?

Man O Man!
I thought the rust was bad on mine where the P.O. put a piece of sheet steel down for a new bed. Definately consider a parts truck or a boneyard trip

Funny the truck isnt in that bad of shape, the frame is stong as heck. Well by frame I mean everything but that peice ^. I asked the junkyard to get me a crossmember for me, but they were going to charge 250+ for removal! I guess ill have to drag my torch out there and cut a good one myself. (if they let me) Hard to belive rusted so bad for only 20 years of a non snow plow truck.... No other options for finding a new crossmember I guess i wont bother reinforcing my old one. Untill then, my truck sits with no leaf springs or rear cab mounts. Waiting to drive my ford again,
Donnie

Does nobody make any repro parts for these trucks?

When you get a new one, coat it in POR-15 so you don't come across this again.

I hope a 1986 f150 2 wheel drive ford cross member is the same as my 86 4x4. I took my old member along with me to match it up to the 2 wheel drive ford and It looked perfect, so I told the guy to cut if for me (off his parts truck). He wants 100.00 Bucks for it; problem is I NEED IT (ill pay but Ill try for 50). Has any one dealt with installing a 2wheel drive rear cross member cab mount on a 4x4? Thanks,
Donnie Race
(He will have it cut off by tomorrow night)

Removed image tags to turn pictures to links and edited title. Users have an hour to edit their own posts and can do this also.

Looks like a typical Kansas City truck after a few years. The salt they use on the roads here eats all the metal parts. The OEMs are doing better with the bodies but the frames and suspension rust out.

There is no difference in a 2WD and a 4x4 other than the transmission crossmember. All other parts are the same. all 80 through 96 F150s are basically the same. The only reason the tranny crossmembers are different is so the transfer case can pass the front drive shaft through and makes the tranny sit a bit lower so the X-fer case will clear the floor. Everything else is the same.

Torque1st - Don't scare me like that by talking about KC trucks. I have a rust free California truck and am about to move to Florida for one year then retire back home in Missouri. I am going to have nightmares now about my perfect truck rusting overnight once I get back home. -g- ( Actually I know they do that which is why I stripped mine down and sprayed in inside and out, body frame and interior in Rust Bullet then painted it with regular paint. Hopefully I have it sealed tight and it will last long enough to give it to my kids someday.)
